Assay Office

The analysis and assay of precious metals along with the expert assessment of jewellery and precious stones are unique competences of the Estonian Assay Office!

Analyses

The Estonian Assay Office testing laboratory has been accredited by the Estonian Centre for Standardisation and Accreditation as a testing laboratory that meets the requirements of EVS-EN ISO/IEC 17025 in the area of precious metal analyses.

The analysis of precious metal alloys by non-destructive methods:

The method used is the X-ray fluorescence spectrometry analysis (XRF) – the qualitative and quantitative analysis of precious metal alloys.

The analysis of precious metal alloys by destructive methods:

Silver alloys are analysed in accordance with the requirements of standard EVS-EN ISO 11427:2016 “Determination of silver in silver jewellery alloys – Volumetric (potentiometric) method using potassium bromide” or the requirements of ISO 13756 “Determination of silver in silver alloys – Volumetric (potentiometric) method using sodium chloride or potassium chloride”.

Gold alloys are analysed in accordance with the requirements of standard EVS-EN ISO 11426:2021 “Determination of gold – Cupellation method (fire assay)”.

Other analyses

We perform qualitative analyses of nickel release.
The elements Au, Pd, Pt, Rh, Ir, Co, Cu, Fe, Mn, Ni, Zn, Al, Sb, Sn, Bi, Pb, Cd, Re, W, Mo and Ta are determined in the course of an atom absorption analysis.

Test reports

A test report is drawn up about the performed analysis and the measurement uncertainty of the method is indicated in presenting the analysis results. Translation into English is also provided, if necessary.

We will answer your inquiry as soon as possible.
