On May 7, Metrosert hosted a study visit for Mustamäe State Upper Secondary School (MURG) as part of the elective course “The Growing Importance of Marine Engineering and Hydrogen Technologies.” The course, offered in collaboration with the TalTech Estonian Maritime Academy, aims to demonstrate the role of metrology and hydrogen technologies in modern maritime energy systems.
The students received an overview of Metrosert’s laboratory operations, specifically within the electrical, pressure, mass, and volume testing laboratories. The session focused on the calibration of measuring instruments—the comparison of a device’s reading against a reference standard—and adjustment procedures. This practical insight into the laboratory environment illustrated how measurement precision, safety, and compliance with international standards are ensured. Metrology, the science of measurement, is fundamental to the implementation of new technologies, where accurate data serves as the basis for system reliability and efficiency.

During the visit, students also met with representatives from the Hydrogen Technologies Unit of the Metrosert Applied Research Center. The discussions covered current applied research in Estonia and the structural links between science and industry. Providing an overview of these sectoral trends supports the students’ understanding of how theoretical knowledge in marine engineering and energetics is applied in practical industrial solutions.
