Rector of Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech), Tiit Land, and Vice-Rector for Entrepreneurship Erik Puura met with Metrosert board members Aigar Vaigu and Indrek Tulp to agree on joint objectives for advancing education, internship opportunities, and research and development.
TalTech’s Vice-Rector for Research and Entrepreneurship, Erik Puura, emphasized that the meeting gave both parties a clearer understanding of each other’s capabilities and needs, opening the door to new collaboration opportunities. “A comparison of services showed minimal overlap, which creates a strong foundation for joint marketing,” Puura added.
The university will take responsibility for academic and training initiatives, while Metrosert will support students through scholarships and by offering valuable internship placements. The partnership also extends to involving international doctoral students, with the goal of retaining talent in Estonia and providing them with the opportunity to contribute to the Estonian economy as part of an international team.
The cooperation covers several innovative fields, including biorefining, autonomous vehicles, drone technologies, health data, hydrogen technologies, and metrology. Metrosert and TalTech will engage closely with the student hydrogen organization TiVo and in launching the ADS lab, involving students early in the development process.
Metrosert board member Aigar Vaigu stressed that the competitiveness of Estonian technology companies depends on highly skilled young professionals. “We need a workforce that understands deep and advanced technologies and can deliver solutions tailored to client needs. Cooperation with TalTech is key to achieving this,” said Vaigu.
Indrek Tulp, Metrosert board member and head of the applied research center, added that the partnership strengthens the link between science and business, while also involving students in practical development projects. “This creates value that extends well beyond the boundaries of the university and the company,” said Tulp.
The framework agreement between Metrosert and TalTech aims to support companies in tackling technological challenges and enhancing Estonia’s global competitiveness. The agreement outlines joint activities in research and development projects, more efficient use of laboratories and equipment, and student involvement in practical projects.
The next partner meeting is scheduled for autumn, following the start of Tiit Land’s new term as Rector of Tallinn University of Technology.
