Estonian President’s visit focused on science and industry cooperation

Friday 23 May was a historic day for Metrosert, as we had a visit from the President of Estonia, Alar Karis.

During his visit, the President was introduced to various applied research and research development topics and was given an overview of how Metrosert’s current and planned services support cooperation between Estonian companies and researchers.

The President stressed the importance of Metrosert in developing Estonia’s research-intensive businesses, saying: “If we want our knowledge-intensive companies to change the world, they need to develop their products to the level of industrial production. The Applied Research Center, which was established at Metrosert in 2023, will help them to achieve this essential capability. It will provide the impetus for new products and technologies that are essential for the development of applications such as wood refining, medical data and autonomous vehicles.”

Metrosert will maintain Estonia’s state-owned facilities, calibrate and certify, while also assisting researchers and companies at the crossroads of industry and science, the President said. “The laboratories here are not just about ensuring the accuracy of measuring equipment – they are about development work that supports innovation, productivity and reliability in Estonian industry,” he assessed. “Reliable measurement data and testing of prototypes create the basis for smart manufacturing, exports and competitiveness on the international market – in other words, for Estonia’s economic growth.”

During the visit, the President met our staff and visited our laboratories. The excitement was so great that the visit was short. The President promised to return when the new applied research laboratories would be ready.
