On Wednesday, October 8, Muhammet Kasım Gönüllü, Deputy Minister of Industry and Technology of Turkey, visited the Metrosert Applied Research Center to learn about developments in Estonian drone technologies and biorefining.
The purpose of the visit was to exchange experiences and discuss future cooperation opportunities in the field of innovation and applied research. According to the Deputy Minister, Estonia offers good opportunities for industrial and technological development, primarily due to its flexible environment that favors cooperation between research and business. During the meeting, it was agreed to maintain contact and cooperate in the future in order to strengthen ties between the technology and research institutions of the two countries.
Metrosert’s applied research directions were presented by Rainer Kivimäe, Head of Drone Technologies, and Kaupo Reede, Head of Biorefining Technologies, who gave an overview of Metrosert’s most important research projects and opportunities for cooperation.
The Deputy Minister was accompanied on the visit by Turkish Ambassador Başak Türkoğlu, Deputy Head of Mission Anıl Özge Ertay, and Deputy Minister’s Advisor Özgür Bayata.
Muhammet Kasım Gönüllü is the Deputy Minister of Industry and Technology of Turkey, holding a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from Middle East Technical University. He has previously worked as a technical lead and engineer in both public and private sectors, actively contributing to national technology and innovation projects such as TEKNOFEST. As Deputy Minister, Gönüllü serves on the Technology and Innovation Committee of the Turkish Development Fund, focusing on evaluating and coordinating strategic technology initiatives that connect public and private sector interests. He is also recognized for advancing digital transformation and advocating for youth engagement.
