Health data

Field-related goals

Estonia has made significant progress in the digitalisation of its healthcare system, creating large amounts of valuable data that have high potential in the development of data-driven and personalised approaches to healthcare and the prevention of diseases. This will benefit not only the patients of one hospital but the entire population by promoting a healthier lifestyle. Our mission is to assist academic circles and the private healthcare sector in coping with challenges related to the use of such data while protecting the privacy of individual persons.

What kind of companies are we looking for (company profile, field of activity)?

Our services benefit a number of healthcare institutions – from pharmaceutical companies looking for new markets for their products or wishing to test them in Estonia to undertakings developing healthcare technologies and services. We would also like to establish ourselves as a viable technology partner in global research: for example in the framework of the innovative health initiative of the European Community.

How can Applied Research Center promote innovation in businesses?

We offer specific knowledge in the field of digital healthcare systems and lower access barriers to many healthcare-related analysis services. This simplifies product development and creates novel opportunities for services that connect individuals with different parties of the healthcare sector.

What are some novel solutions in this sector and how can Applied Research Center help in their development?

Personalised healthcare solutions require combining medical and lifestyle factors. Genetic and other molecular data are becoming increasingly relevant. The planning of such systems requires detailed data on the general population and improved statistical modelling in order to visualise their complex intercorrelations. To handle these challenges, we strive to establish a partnership network of healthcare data processors and service providers. Such a network helps to streamline the secondary use of health data in Estonia. In addition, we are involved in developing machine learning and AI capabilities to tackle relevant analytical challenges.

How do businesses benefit from cooperating with Applied Research Center? / Why should you work with us?

We supply our partners with analytical and sector-based research data that can be used in communication, strategic planning or decision-making as well as in the development of products and services. Our knowledge and experience with planning research activities, enhanced statistical analysis and the management of national health and other extensive databases both in Estonia and abroad, as well as in navigating the regulatory landscape when using healthcare data ensure high-quality results for our customers. Our customers not only save on time and resources but can take full advantage of our research and technology capabilities.

What services does Applied Research Center offer in this field? / What kind of technologies do we use?

We also offer information services such as detailed health trends in Estonia as well as services in health economics which take into account morbidity and intercurrent illnesses throughout life. Last but not least, we help our customers navigate the regulatory and ethical landscape of the use of personal data, including obtaining ethical approvals.
