Metrosert’s hydrogen technology experts help accelerate the green transition

On Tuesday, May 6, Metrosert’s hydrogen technology team – Priit Ilomets, Ly Lepik, and Silvar Kallip – took part in the Horizon Europe Cluster 5 forum held in Brussels.

The event focused on Europe’s green and digital transitions, aiming to achieve climate neutrality by 2050.

The forum brought together researchers, companies, universities, municipalities, and NGOs seeking collaboration and funding opportunities under the Horizon Europe 2025 calls. The agenda covered a wide range of topics — from biofuels and energy storage to buildings, industry, aviation, and maritime transport.

A highlight of the event was the GREENET pitching sprint, a series of rapid-fire, three-minute presentations where participants exchanged ideas and contacts to find suitable partners for joint proposals.

Metrosert attended the forum alongside Estonian research institutions and companies, including:

  • TalTech, Estonian Maritime Academy – hydrogen and maritime technology development and testing environments
  • University of Tartu – over 50 years of world-class research in electrochemistry
  • Baltic Hydrogen Group – a cross-border collaboration network for development of green hydrogen infrastructure.
  • CAFA Tech – cellular drones, tactical batteries, and defense technologies

Many of the participating organizations, including Metrosert, are also involved in Hydrogen Valley Estonia (HVE) — the world’s first nationwide hydrogen valley. This initiative brings together Estonia’s regions, research institutions, and industrial partners to develop a sustainable hydrogen ecosystem.

Metrosert contributes to this cooperation as lead coordinator and a reliable and experienced national research, development and testing partner, serving as a bridge between academia, industry, and the public sector. Our work spans from metrology to the development of deep technologies, including in the field of hydrogen technologies.
