Metrosert, Estonia’s Applied Research Center and National Metrology Institute, will discontinue the provision of certification services as of March 2026. As an exception, the auditing service for prepackages (verification of nominal quantity control systems) will continue, as no other institution in Estonia provides this service.
The decision stems from the expectations of the state as the owner of the company and from the need to focus on Metrosert’s core strategic functions – applied research and metrology – which support business innovation as well as reliable and accurate measurements.
Although the number of clients using certification services and the related revenue have increased in recent years, and new certification schemes have been introduced, continuing certification activities in line with Metrosert’s overall growth strategy would require very rapid and sustained growth in service volumes, which could not realistically be achieved without incurring quality risks.
Metrosert has contacted all clients, explained the situation, and supported them in identifying the most suitable alternative solutions.
Metrosert will continue auditing prepackage nominal quantity control systems, as this service is not provided by any other institution in Estonia.
