Metrosert Marks the Beginning of the 150th Anniversary Month of the Metre Convention with a New Verification Sticker

At the beginning of May, Metrosert took a symbolic step by introducing a completely new design and material for its verification sticker. The first sticker, bearing the number 00001, was affixed to a meaningful measuring instrument – a scale.

“A verification sticker is an information label that confirms a measuring instrument has undergone the mandatory inspection and meets all the necessary requirements,” explained Lauri Lillepea, Head of Metrosert’s Metrology Division. “The presence of such a sticker on a device ensures that measuring instruments used in stores, water and energy sales, and in traffic control are accurate and reliable.”

Small – but significant!

The new sticker was developed over the course of more than six months. A crucial part of the process was testing the material – Metrosert employees evaluated the sticker’s resistance to wear and tear in wet environments and various weather conditions.

Each year, Metrosert uses approximately 15,000 verification stickers. The sticker always displays who verified the measuring instrument and when – the year is printed, and the month is punched.

The annual verification of non-automatic weighing instruments is mandatory. A wide range of devices used for measurements in commerce, energy and water sales, medicine, traffic control, and taxation fall under the legal metrological control requirements. In other words, these are instruments that help build economic confidence and trust.

When you see a Metrosert verification sticker on a measuring device, you can be sure that the instrument is accurate and complies with current regulations! Learn more: HERE.
