Metrosert Discussed the Role of Applied Research Organizations in Civil and Military Defence with Nordic RTOs

In early May, Metrosert participated in a meeting of Nordic research and technology organisations (RTOs) in Stockholm, focused on the growing role of science and innovation in enhancing national preparedness, resilience, and security.

“Regional cooperation in the field of Nordic total defence is important to us. We look forward to the next meeting at VTT this autumn,” said Indrek Tulp, Member of the Board and Head of the Applied Research Centre.

The event was hosted by RISE Research Institutes of Sweden and brought together partners from the Danish Technological Institute, SINTEF (Norway), VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, and the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre.

Metrosert presented its planned applied research capabilities in drone technologies, R&D solutions in alternative energy and food production, secure data analytics, reliable metrology services for the defence industry, and the development of independent national time and frequency standards.

The meeting served as a platform for sharing experiences and exploring collaboration opportunities to jointly address regional security challenges in a changing geopolitical context. It also aimed to steer the defence policy dialogue toward a stronger research- and innovation-based foundation.

There is a growing recognition that science and innovation are not only drivers of economic and technological progress, but also critical components of national total defence.

We thank RISE for the warm welcome and truly value the ongoing collaboration with our Nordic colleagues.
