Metrosert and the Estonian University of Life Sciences signed a framework agreement in February 2025 to develop cooperation to support companies in solving technological challenges and increase Estonia’s competitiveness.
The agreement foresees joint activities in research and development projects, more efficient use of laboratories and equipment, and the involvement of students in practical projects.
The cooperation agreement was signed by the Vice Rector for Research of the Estonian University of Life Sciences, Rein Drenkhan, and a member of the Metrosert Board, Indrek Tulp. The initial focus areas are metrology, biorefining and drone technologies.
“We are delighted to be working with Metroserd,” said Rein Drenkhan. “The collaboration will help us to contribute to the development of our focus areas, improve the quality of our research, avoid duplication of activities and provide students with opportunities to contribute to practical challenges.” He added that the university sees the collaboration as a good opportunity to better prepare the next generation of scientists and engineers.
Indrek Tulp stressed that the aim of the cooperation is to foster the creation of research solutions that are important for Estonia and the world. “Our common goal is to accelerate technological development and help new products and services reach the market faster,” he said. He added that Metrosert sees the cooperation with the Estonian University of Life Sciences as an opportunity to share knowledge and experience and develop new technologies.
Metrosert is a strategically important company for Estonia and its role is to support the development of research and high-tech industry in Estonia. Metrosert, the Estonian central metrology institution, maintains and develops Estonian national metrology laboratories and started to build up an applied research centre at the end of 2023.
